Buying used is the perfect way to get a great deal on a used toy hauler. Unfortunately, not all toy hauler owners take care of their RVs. That’s why you should always inspect a used toy hauler before purchasing it. If you’d like to know more about inspecting a used toy hauler, check out this guide from Schwab’s R.V. World. Bear in mind that this article is dedicated to inspection tips specifically related to toy hauler RVs. General rules for inspection RVs, such as checking the water and electrical systems, still apply.

Check the Seals

Toy haulers have special silicone and rubber seals meant to keep water out. These seals are very important since water damage can be both difficult and expensive to repair. If you’re inspecting a used toy hauler and the seals are no longer intact, there’s a good chance that the RV is hiding some serious water damage.

Check the Tires

One thing that toy hauler owners sometimes forget to account for is how the RV’s cargo bay can cause uneven weight distribution. One way this can manifest is through uneven tire wear. Of course, uneven tire wear can also be caused by structural problems with the RV itself, so be very thorough with your inspection.

Test the Ramp

Typically, a toy hauler’s cargo bay will feature a ramp. Inspect this ramp to make sure that you’ll be able to raise and lower it without issue. We also recommend checking it to ensure that it can handle weight whenever you decide to load up your RV.

Inspect the Cargo Bay Area

Finally, check that the cargo bay itself is in good condition. The garage separator should be dent-free, with the tie-down anchor intact and ready to be used.
