The Company Legacy
Palomino RV first started back in 1968 as a tent trailer distributor run by Vern Landey. After working in the distribution business for several years, Landey felt that he could design and produce better quality units than were currently being offered to customers. He soon started designing lightweight pop-up tent trailers and offered convenient floor plans at affordable prices.
The Palomino trailers were first built in Savage, Minnesota, but the demand for them quickly outgrew that facility's production capabilities. In 1972, the company switched to a larger facility in Colon, Michigan. Even with a fire that destroyed the main production building in 1992, Palomino RV’s sales kept going up.
In 1998, Palomino started producing ultra-light travel trailers that became immensely popular. Right from the start, the company has been committed to fulfilling Vern Landey's original mission of making lightweight and easy to transport campers. In 2002, Palomino's parent company Vanguard was acquired by Forest River. This acquisition resulted in an increase in exposure for the Palomino brand, as well as a hike in sales.
